Symantec Integrates Virtualization

Virtualization Software for Advanced Storage Capabilities In Large-scale x86 Environments

Security software and services company Symantec has announced its virtualization software for advanced storage capabilities in large-scale x86 environments.

The company said it has combined Veritas Virtual Infrastructure, which supports up to 16 x86 servers with a single management console, with Citrix's XenServer virtualization technology.

Symantec said the software preserves direct control of block storage, mirroring across heterogeneous arrays, and SAN multi-pathing, while using Citrix XenServer to deliver reduced storage costs, increased storage utilization, and increased control.

Symantec said a distributed volume manager and a client/server architecture establish an individual relationship between each virtual server and its storage.

The software is expected to be available in September at $4,595 per two-socket server.
